Colchester lost 2-3 at home against Sheffield United for the FA Cup although temporarily had managed to equalize the score to 2-2 in the second half and although they were down 0-2 from the first twelve minutes of the game. After the initial very good start to the league with two out of two wins, to all next 15 games (13 in the league) they have won only once. However, they have the most draws in the league in more than half of the games.

Coach Joe Dunne admitted that in the last game his team in the first half was terrible but in the second half his players showed character, passion and determination. Colchester has too many problems with absences for today’s match. Defender David Wright (13 games), attacking midfielder Gavin Massey (10 games, 1 goal), striker Freddie Sears (12 games, 4 goals), striker Jabo Ibehre (14 games, 3 goals), attacking midfielder Sanchez Watt (5 games), defender Josh Thompson (1 game), midfielder Drey Wright (8 games), midfielder Connor Huble (1 game) and defender Luke Garbutt (10 games, 1 goal) are all out for various reasons.

Swindon was down 0-1 in the end of the first half against Wycombe for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, but equalized twelve minutes before the end and eventually won with the score of 2-1 with a goal in injury time. So they avoided a second consecutive exclusion from a lower league team. Away from their stadium they are weaker, as five of the six defeats in the league have come off.

Their coach Mark Cooper was delighted with the reaction shown by his players after the exclusion from the FA Cup, saying it showed that they care and are not unconscious. Even said that for a long time tried and played good football, but he had complaints from the way his team defends. Enough troubles with absence for Colchester too. Striker Ryan Mason (12 games, 4 goals), defender Alex Smith (5 games), defender Tijane Reis (3 games), attacking midfielder Miles Storey (6 games), defneder Troy Archibald-Henville, main keeper Wes Foderingham (19 games) and key defender Nathan Thompson (17 games, 1 goal) are all out with injuries.

Swindon is weak away from home and Colchester has to start collecting points. With both teams facing important problems in defense, this should be high scoring game.
